Allison DeFoor joined The Fiorentino Group in 2011 and serves as a Principal in the firm’s Tallahassee office. Allison is a seventh-generation Floridian with a career spanning the political and business spectrum. His work is influenced by his love of the state and its environment.
Allison came to The Fiorentino Group from Go Green Strategies, an environmental consulting firm he founded with his business partner, Colleen Castille. Prior to forming Go Green Strategies, Allison served in a variety of legal, consulting and board member capacities in the public and private sectors. In 1999, Allison served as everglades and environmental policy coordinator for Governor Jeb Bush. Known as the “Everglades Czar,” he helped organize and bring to fruition the largest land restoration project in U.S. history. Prior to serving in the Bush Administration, Allison practiced law with Hershoff, Lupino and DeFoor, LLC, in Plantation Key, Florida from 1993-1999. Allison’s environmental career spans more than 30 years. He has served as president of the Florida Keys Land and Sea Trust, is a founding chairman of the Florida Land Trust Association, is a former director of the Florida Audubon Society, and was recipient of its “Chairman’s Award” in 1999. He is a member of the Board of 1000 Friends of Florida and the Collins Center for Public Policy, and has served in numerous other environmental, humanities and land trust organizations throughout his career.
As assistant state attorney and director of a narcotics task force, Allison was proud to be part of the group that cleaned up the government and significantly reduced smuggling problems in the Florida Keys in the 1980s. In 1983, Allison was elected county judge in Monroe County at age 28. He then moved to the 16th Judicial Circuit, where he presided from 1985-1987. Later, Allison transitioned from the court room to law enforcement, serving as Monroe County Sheriff from 1989-1990.
An experienced businessman and legal professional, Allison has been active in the statewide business, legal and political communities, and has served on the boards of numerous corporations. Currently, he serves on the Board of Governors for the Florida Chamber and on the board of directors for Florida TaxWatch, and he is a former director for Associated Industries of Florida. He also served on the board of governors of the Florida Bar, and is “AV” rated as an attorney. Among his many political accomplishments, Allison was most notably the Republican Party nominee for lieutenant governor and running-mate of Governor Bob Martinez in 1990, and served as vice chair of the Republican Party of Florida from 2003-2007.
Allison is a published author, with 11 books and numerous professional journal articles. He was also a 15-year faculty member at the University of Miami, and has given lectures at Florida A&M University, Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania and other universities. He has been a trustee of three colleges and is a former member of the board of visitors of Florida State University Law School.
Allison has a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Master of Arts in Criminology from the University of South Florida, a law degree from Stetson University, and a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry from the Florida Center for Theological Studies, a Miami seminary. He is an ordained Episcopal priest engaged in prison ministry. He resides in Wakulla Springs. He and his wife Terry, a teacher, have three children and two grandchildren.
